Gigs and Mixes, 2025
Feb 13, 2025 — Furcationkand — Hyperpop
Sometimes it all comes together. As I mentioned in my Furpoc 2024 post, Hyperpop is a difficult genre to mix, and finding the right flow between awesome tracks can be challenging. The tight requirements mean I can’t just pick tracks based on vibes and know they’ll go together. While this wasn’t a playlist set, with every single track pre-selected and played in order, it got quite close to that, with some three-track blocks carefully planned out. On top of the technical challenges, I was slotted to follow GOJII, one of the top furry DJs and producers in the game. There was a very real possibility that if I didn’t grab the crowd immediately after his set, they would pour of the room. So my challenge was to hit em hard and not let go for an hour.
This set required many hours of practice, and the result is the best set I think I’ve ever played. It’s tight, propels forward, and spans a nice variety of styles. Unlike most of my sets, it even drops down in tempo over time without losing any of the energy. The response to this set has been incredible, and my only worry now is that I’ve set the bar too high for the next one :).
Feb 1, 2025 — Nuzzle
This was a challenging evening, with a miscommunication about the in-house equipment meaning that the entire lineup had to be flipped around. We made it work, but it was stressful enough that I did not don the Huxley head so I could focus on keeping the night going. At the end of the night, nobody in the crowd noticed the difference, which is always the goal.
Jan 20, 2025 — ANE × Fascination 2 — Techno / Club
Back for round two!
This year, the Fascination takeover was the day after the con, which meant it drew more of a local crowd as the out-of-towners were already on the road. I was also hoping to do only one slot and feature other furry DJs for the other slots, but the logistics did not allow for it. I chose to switch up my slots so I played first, 9-10, and third, 11-12. This allowed me to build the room from zero at nine, and come back for Peak Time at 11pm. (This is Boston, we close early).
The sets were a blast, and the gogo dancers were a hit as always. With all of the local furry club nights, the furry takeover is not quite as novel as when we did it last year, so it’s not clear whether it will happen again in 2026. But the crowd was strong, the vibes were good, and I hope we can make it happen again.
